Community schools should not be short-changed to provide choice programs

“Choice programming needs to provide equal access for students districtwide while simultaneously leaving enough funds to meet every students’ needs in the district.” Olympia School District parents submitted an op-ed rebuttal to the Laurie Dolan & Sam Hunt op-ed in The Olympian this weekend.

OSD4ALL STATEMENT ON The 9/9/24 Olympian Article: Olympia school board member ‘uncomfortable’ working with peers after rift at retreat

Maria Flores has been a standout advocate for our community and her recent comments regarding the August 10 board retreat are an example of her commitment to the students and families of this district. There can be no moving forward without first doing the hard work of repair within the OSD Board of Directors as Director Flores requests. The request for mediation shows efforts for better working relationships and conflict resolution with other members of the OSD Board of Directors. To ignore this request from both Director Flores and the community, sends a message that equity, humility, and compassion are not characteristics of Olympia School District leadership. If this mediation request goes unanswered by President Seidel, it shows deeply flawed leadership and an inability to model conflict resolution for students in the district.

REMINDER… Attendance Counts on OCTOBER 1st

A student enrollment count will be conducted by all OSD schools on October 1st. The data collected is used by OSD to aid in building the district budget for school year 2025-2026. Doing our best to prevent absenteeism on October 1st will help ensure that our district is making the most accurate projections for enrollment figures.
