The Olympia School District Transition Program was founded by Roberta Dee in 1991 and was located at the Dee House. They are now located in the Avanti High School building with some administration done by the Avanti principal. Transitions Academy is a post-secondary program for students with disabilities, ages 18-22, and concentrates on providing independent living skills. Students who qualify are also supported by the district Speech, Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist.
The Transitions program is focused on teaching vocational, academic, and life skills through a variety of community partnerships. Post-secondary transition planning is very individual. Each student’s transition is individual and based on the student’s needs, interests, strengths and preferences. There are approximately 25 slots in the program.
