ABOUT
Capital High School is West Olympia’s neighborhood high school, and it is a short walk from Jefferson Middle School. They boast an amazing theater program and new Performing Arts Center, and then there’s that slogan, ‘Westside Bestside.’ Pretty clever, but not advisable on the eastside unless the Cougars are playing the Bears. Notable alumni late include peace activist, Rachel Corrie, and Bikini Kill drummer, Tobi Vail. Both comprehensive schools offer CHiS (College in the High School) credit, AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) at the college preparatory level, CTE (College & Technical Education) vocational opportunities, and the Life Skills Program for students with profound disabilities.
(IB) the International Baccalaureate program replaces AP offerings at Capital High School. International Baccalaureate is a rigorous pre-university course of study that could lead to a full IB diploma or certificate in 11th and 12th grade.
Capital High School also is the service area high school for students in the K-8 Griffin School District on Steamboat Island. Visit their site for more on enrollment and transition services.
Among the clubs, plays, and extracurricular activities, CHS offers athletics, like Boys/Girls Cross Country, Boys/Girls Basketball, Baseball, Boys Tennis, Boys/Girls Wrestling, Boys/Girls Track, Volleyball, Girls Bowling, Girls Tennis, Football, Gymnastics, Boys Soccer, Girls Swim, Boys Swim, Fastpitch, Girls Soccer, Boys/Girls Golf, Cheerleading and Dance.
