ABOUT
Hansen is a neighborhood school in Northwest Olympia that is named after the first female speaker of the state House of Representatives, Judith Butler Hansen. They are the newest elementary school in the district, and houses a contained alternative program called HAP (Hansen Alternative Program). Hansen houses both a Developmental Preschool and Intensive Preschool. They also have a DLC Program (Developmental Learning Classroom) to serve students with moderate cognitive delays in a non-integrated setting and have the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) curriculum, which teaches organizational, communication, and self-advocacy skills to help with college and career-readiness.HAP (Hansen Alternative Program)
HAP provides students with a community-supported learning environment to give them the skills to succeed academically and socially. It is similar to the Lincoln Options model, but contained within the school. View the HAP Handbook for more information.HAP ENROLLMENT
HAP Enrollment is by lottery with Hansen service area students having first priority. Dates for info nights and enrollment upcoming.FOOD & TRANSPORT
Hansen has free breakfast and lunch, as do ALL westside schools.Currently, Hansen is about a 15 minute walk from the 48 busline. Changes to 34 busline on May 3, 2026.
