ABOUT
Jefferson Middle School has been in part of the Westside for over 60 years, and is the most walkable middle school in the Olympia School District. They have an after school homework library, and are the only middle school with after school child care and a highly capable program that includes physical science.They also have a DLC Program (Developmental Learning Classroom) to serve students with moderate cognitive delays in a non-integrated setting and have the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) for their multilingual program only. At the middle school level, AVID supports students by teaching essential skills like writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to help them succeed in rigorous courses and prepare for high school.
Jefferson also offers several clubs, including robotics, as well as athletics like Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Coed Cross Country, Girls Basketball, Boys Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Soccer, Co-Ed Track.
JAMS (Jefferson Accelerated Math & Science) is a highly capable 3-year integrated middle school program. Find out more about JAMS.
JAMS ENROLLMENT
Enrollment is by lottery. Students designated as Highly Capable by the Olympia School District have first priority in the program. There is no sibling or Jefferson service area priority. All applicants meeting the following criteria will be considered for the JAMS program:- Students entering 6, 7, or 8 grade, who are qualified for Highly Capable
- SBA Scores for ELA, Math, and Science at a level 3 or 4. (Spring 2025 scores)
- MAP scores for Reading and Math above the 85th percentile. (Fall 2025 scores) Info Night is February 10. Applications are due March 13.
FOOD, TRANSPORT, & CHILDCARE
Jefferson has free breakfast and lunch, as do ALL westside schools.Jefferson has full bus service for area residents, but out of the Jefferson service area, JAMS students have LIMITED TRANSPORT, with bus stops at Madison, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Garfield elementary schools, Washington middle school, and ORLA.) Currently, near 41, ONE, and 45 buslines. Changes to 31, 32, and 34 buslines on May 3, 2026.
Jefferson is the only middle school with PM-child care with Boys & Girls Club.
