ABOUT
Thurgood Marshall Middle School, or just Marshall, is the newest middle school in the Olympia School District. They have the district alternative program CSI (Citizen Science Institute) which engages students in field-based science investigations and civic literacy through action projects. They also have a DLC Program (Developmental Learning Classroom) to serve students with moderate cognitive delays in a non-integrated setting and have the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) curriculum. At the middle school level, AVID supports students by teaching essential skills like writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to help them succeed in rigorous courses and prepare for high school.

Among other after school activities, the athletics offered include Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Co-Ed Cross Country, Girls Basketball, Boys Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Soccer, Track & Field.
CSI ENROLLMENT
Enrollment is by lottery. There are 47-50 spots available. Info Night is February 4. Applications are due March 13. The Lottery takes place on March 16. The CSI lottery does not prioritize siblings or catchment students.
FOOD AND TRANSPORT
Marshall has free breakfast and lunch, as do ALL westside schools.

Marshall has full bus service for area residents, but out of the Marshall service area, CSI students have LIMITED TRANSPORT, with bus stops at Madison, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Garfield elementary schools, Washington middle school, and ORLA.

Currently, Marshall is a 15 minute walk from the 41 and 48 buslines. Changes to 34 busline on May 3, 2026.
